Oh, if I could guarantee at least €750 per month in donations, I would happily quit my day job and devote myself full‑time to #FreeSoftware. I’d expand my current contributions to #Debian, #GNOME, #Ubuntu, #FDroid, and other projects that interest me but for which I currently have no spare time.
Any ideas on how this could work for an individual developer stuck in Iran?

How to manage installed apps without root?
Hi!
I had an issue while installing an app through fdroid, so I shut fdroid down because the install process was going on and never ending after several minutes, but know I can’t install the app from fdroid nor from the direct apk file.
I suspect there’s a file stored somewhere, creating a conflict and preventing me from installing the app that I need, but i can’t access the directory where apps from fdroid are stores unless I root my device, which I don’t feel comfortable doing.
Has anyone had the same issue? What are my options?
Also I’m running GrapheneOS.

#Fedilab and #HolosSocial allow using the offline translator for #Android, and the app is available on #FDroid.
I would like to encourage every F-Droid user to use it and enable it in Fedilab.

So if you download your purchased audio books from Audible and convert them to mp3, what app do you then use to listen to them, so that you can bookmark where you were and maybe put a sleep timer on? #FDroid #audiobooks

Welcome to this week’s The Programmer’s Fulcrum.
It’s your weekly curation of the essential news in the Open Media Network and open social development communities with a focus on devastating big tech via Techno Anarchism.
As usual, we aim to provide actionable content you can use to destroy Techno Feudalism each week. It has the additional benefit of weakening authoritarianism.
IMHO, the best way to do that is to use tools from the Techno Anarchist Manifesto to build your own site(s) to participate in the Open Media Network. Then you should share it (them) via Real Simple Syndication (RSS), the Fediverse, and possibly a newsletter or podcast. This approach is similar to what some call the IndieWeb and its POSSE philosophy.
The second best strategy is to have accounts on the Fediverse and use the hell out of them. And do the same with a RSS feed reader.

But it’s not just the coordinated attack. The fight itself feels deflated, in ways the fight for the internet hasn’t been before. Sure, we have orgs like the ACLU, the Open Rights Group, the EFF, Fight for the Future, the usual suspects all fighting for the rights of the internet. And that’s great.
But there’s something else.
It feels like people are tired.
What happened to the fight for the Internet?
Let’s stay on our feet and keep swinging. Take breaks when you need to. Your second, third, fourth, and fifth winds will come back. It’s a permanent battle.

This is necessary because many people aren’t able to comprehend this -> the Fediverse is for communities (private, semi-private, or otherwise) and the Atmosphere is for the masses (unwashed, washed, or otherwise). Corporate social media is for naive fools and intentional cunts.
Also, you can avoid surveillance on the Fediverse if you want to (and choose the correct tools) but not on the Atmosphere.
So, recognize their natures and don’t fucking ask the two protocols to go against them. This is also why I have accounts on both platforms and use them differently.

If you’re a larger community than GFSC, Bonfire would be the better fit (though hosting may not be any more inexpensive). Plus, you can lock it down and avoid the outside abuse and inept regulation issues.
But, the main point is this: if you’re small (and income challenged) you need to join the instance that fits you best and not self-host one on your own. It’s easier to donate to your instance admin than manage and pay for infrastructure. And just in case, educate yourself on how to migrate away from it.

Ich nutze #GrapheneOS und meide sowie irgend möglich den PlayStore. Banking Apps sind z.B. eine erzwungene Ausnahme. #fdroid F-Droid ist meine App-Quelle der Wahl mit vielen Lösungen um #BigTech zu vermeiden.

Ho appena trovato su F-Droid un bel client modificato della app ufficiale di Mastodon. Si chiama @moshidon
La cosa che apprezzo di più è la possibilità di leggere le timeline locali di altri server, cioè, la funzionalità che imho davo per scontata quando mi sono approciato al concetto di federazione e decentralizzazione. Va bene non essere tutti sullo stesso server, ma voglio avere il piacere di "entrare in casa degli altri"!

F-Droid: la verifica degli sviluppatori Android è un malware
Circa due settimane fa, Google ha confermato la roadmap della verifica obbligatoria per gli sviluppatori Android. F-Droid ha pubblicato un nuovo post sul sito ufficiale per evidenziare le conseguenze, affermando che il servizio usato per bloccare le app non verificate è come un malware.

Wat zijn 'restrictieve landen'?
Kort gezegd: landen met zware internetcensuur, waar de overheid streng controleert wat je online mag zien, zeggen en maken.
Juist in die landen — en in opkomende economieën — lopen app-makers nu gevaar. Europa wilde met nieuwe regels de macht van Big Tech breken, maar Google reageert met verstikkende identificatie-eisen voor ontwikkelaars.
De ironie is pijnlijk: regels tégen Big Tech raken nu juist de kleine, onafhankelijke softwaremakers. Knappe koppen die met minimale middelen prachtige vrije software schrijven, worden buitengesloten door westerse bureaucratie. Dit is een directe aanval op de FOSS-gemeenschap en vrije alternatieven zoals F-Droid.
Google is groot geworden dankzij deze wereldwijde community. Het techbedrijf moet verder kijken dan de grenzen van de VS en de EU. Digitale vrijheid is een wereldwijd recht. Bescherm de opensource-wereld in plaats van deze kapot te reguleren.

Man kann eigentlich nicht oft genug darauf hinweisen, dass zum 1. September diesen Jahres Google #Android zum #WalletGarden macht.
Damit werden natürlich auch alle Bestrebungen zur #DigitaleSouveränität im Privaten blockiert. Es ist jetzt schon schwierig. Wenn die Alternativen wie z.B. /e/OS, #GrapheneOS oder gar #FDroid wegfallen, wird es ein Ding der Unmöglichkeit werden.

Tor onion links provide greater anonymity to tor users than simply accessing the clearweb site through tor
And the more people use tor and tor onion addresses for uncontroversial browsing the easier it becomes for people to hide in the traffic when it can be a matter of life or death what websites you are accessing

@hund The official WireGuard client is no longer available because the developer (though the WireGuard developer is a bit odd anyway) wanted it that way (F-Droid prohibits in-app updates, so there was apparently a conflict).
WG Tunnel is no longer available on F-Droid because F-Droid labeled Bible apps as NSFW for a while, and as a result, the WG Tunnel developer no longer wanted his app on F-Droid. However, WG Tunnel is still available via IzzyOnDroid.
