My theory: my phone knew from my location I was at a diner today. It went through my photos looking for pictures I've taken from restaurants or maybe just pictures of food in general. There aren't that many pictures I've taken of food, maybe a few dozen. That it selected a picture of a buffalo chicken wrap was just luck.

I've been using Telegram for a long time bc there are some channels with useful info plus some people I chat with are there.

and recently I've realised Telegram has turned into a more user-friendly Discord where one can still use burner phone numbers to sign up without fear of being suspended. this isn't in any way an endorsement to use Telegram - from privacy perspective it sucks.

but I wish Discord servers would've turned to Telegram communities

After more than a year on the waitlist, my Thundermail Early Bird invite finally landed. I subscribed without a second of hesitation and grabbed dol@tb.pro and dima@tb.pro before anyone else could.

Do I need them? Absolutely not. I already run my own three-letter domain, I am on Proton Visionary, Apple One Premier, and a dozen mailboxes I barely open.

But this was never about need. I want @thunderbird to make it. I want at least one piece of email infrastructure left standing that Big Tech cannot swallow. That is worth a subscription without a use case.

FOMO did the clicking. Conviction pays the bill.

Email from Thunderbird Mail announcing Thundermail Early Access invite. It lists three included services: Thundermail email hosting with custom domain support, Send for large file sharing with end-to-end encryption, and Appointment for meeting scheduling. A Subscribe button sits in the middle. The Early Bird plan details at the bottom list 30 GB of Mail Storage, 60 GB of Send Storage, 1 Inbox, 15 Email Addresses, and 3 Custom Domains.

The gap between "encrypted today" and "encrypted forever" matters when conversations get archived. QryptChat uses quantum-resistant algorithms to protect messages against both current eavesdropping and future decryption attempts—a practical distinction if you handle sensitive communications over months or years. Especially useful for teams evaluating messenger security that has to survive beyond the current threat model.

"The server can't read your messages" is often presented as the whole privacy story. It isn't. A relay that forwards opaque ciphertext can still log connecting IPs, access timestamps, message sizes, and frequency — and that's enough to map a social graph without decrypting a single byte.

The design question that actually matters: does the relay keep those logs at all? "Zero metadata" has to mean the server doesn't retain that data, not just that it can't read content.
