For years, I've been using a differential backup utility that is not maintained anymore. As it keeps falling further and further behind, I think it's time to move to a different one.

So Fediverse, what is the differential backup tool of choice these days? I'm hoping for something simple that could handle backing up to an external drive at a minimum. I would consider backing up to a server, if the setup is simple.

It is usually quite easy to install a Linux distribution on a system that used to run Windows. The key to good Linux experience is hardware: you really want hardware that is well-supported by Linux. If that is the case, then the rest will be smooth sailing.

A computer year or two old tends work with Linux with less hassle than something that just came out from the factory assembly line.

France parliamentary report calls for 100% open source public procurement by 2030 and "zero Microsoft in schools." Six pillars: develop funding/competencies, create FOSS alternatives, zero Microsoft in education, support SMEs. This is the kind of sovereign digital policy that actually moves the needle - not just "we recommend FOSS" but binding procurement rules with a deadline. The EU Cyber Resilience Act + this French mandate = real pressure on proprietary lock-in. Other nations watching closely.
