Luanti: 1 - 2 on FreeBSD, 3 - 4 on Devuan (SysV init), a Debian based distro.
Both ran as they are given from repositories.

I'm a bit surprised, or maybe not, to see FreeBSD performing better, just at night I got an higher draw time.
Debian goes a lot worse, higher draw time and large jitter; however is an older version. I should try with the one from Flatpak, as compile stuff on Debian is pretty annoying.

First, installing FreeBSD is a bit like installing Arch, but simpler. The installer gives you a base and later you add what you need, Xorg or Wayland + a DE.
At opposite of Linux, FreeBSD team cares just of the base system, setting up and configuring the desktop is an user task, and what is installed in the begin is really a small set. If you use a different language than English, you need to set up the locales too.

Done this, if you don't know what is under the hood, you would not tell that you are running FreeBSD.
The difference for the desktop user is the repository. Is larger than seems, and is quite updated, maybe not quicker as Arch, but you haven't dusty versions like on Debian, and you have much more than on Debian and possibly other distros without rely on third part repositories.
Is rich that I don't feel I missing flatpak for now.

Example, I love put Xscreensaver on any system I use. Debian is stuck at 6.09, while both FreeBSD and Arch have the 6.15.

Librewolf and Amiberry are missing on Debian, while they are in FreeBSD without external repos. Arch cheats using AUR.

The ports could, however, miss something because most soft is thought for Linux, therefore check if fits also in your requirements.

Is better than many would tell, really. The inconvenience is mostly when they do linux-only stuff, that is the same bad when they do windows-only stuff.
The pick at the end if is you like the underlying system.
Is like Debian but much less obtuse and more slim.

I could still suggest to run a double boot for when Linux is needed.

What I'm curious about is if the driver's overhead is noticeable for normal games and if, how much. Because, if you want squeeze up the last frame, Linux is a better choice for the driver support; but today "squeeze" framerate means gaming at 4k, stuff that just some do.
What about "normal" gaming with more common 1080p (or less) screen, that I bet most still have and are ok with?
That's what I want see by myself.
