The second release candidate version of FreeBSD 15.1, RC3, is now live and available for download to the public for those who like testing pre-release operating systems. This version of FreeBSD brings many improvements to come.
The ISO images can now be downloaded using the below button. It will take you to the file list that lets you select what kind of image you want to download, in terms of architecture, install source, and image type.
The release schedule for FreeBSD 15.1, which describes the expected deadlines to meet for every release stage, such as the final release which will be released next week, can be located here.

System administrators must manage software packages. With a mix of Unix-family operating systems, you must use the commands specific to each platform. On Red-Hat-derived systems, these include rpm, dnf (formerly yum), and urpmi. On Debian derivatives such as the many Ubuntu variants, these include apt and dpkg. On FreeBSD, one command pkg does it all. On OpenBSD, it’s a family of commands starting pkg_, and on Solaris, similarly named pkg. Here are explanations through examples of how to manage software packages and answer questions about installed or missing software using these commands across all those operating systems.
