I used Apple iMac and a MacBook Pro for years, precisely because it is UNIX and I could do Unixy things on it.

Sadly, because of the permissive license, has taken an open source operating system, and made it de facto, proprietary.

Why doesn't Apple release its creative tools, and under the ?

It's not like they ever make money from those applications.

Stumped upon same situation as two days ago where I found it extremely hard to to find where a base utility comes from using a system. It was the sysrc utiity last weekend, and today mixer. They are there in the manual pages, in source code, but no easy way to find out where they end up in FreeBSD-xxx packages. Luckily when I used enough keywords Google Gemini actually was capable to point me to the FreeBSD-sound package.
