(a) If I download a linux distro, I can pretty much install it on any computer I want.

(b) However, CalyxOS, /e/os, LineageOS, PostmarketOS, Manjaro, UbuntuTouch, etc., all need to be supported on specific phones before you can install and use them.

Q: Why does situation (b) occur?

My current explanation is it's a manufacturer made problem.
Computers had time to mature and grow together with Linux. Phones are for profit (by tracking) and closed by design.
