    True digital sovereignty isn't about choosing open source — it's about
    deliberate architectural agency and .

    Systematically moving away from US-centric corporate infrastructure, proprietary software, and the monoculture of their technical standards.

    My current path:
    -> OS: Evaluating European-backed distributions (#openSUSE, ) to keep control over local endpoints and reject corporate-driven architectural monopolies.

    -> Infrastructure: Self-hosted services (#Nextcloud, , ) shifting to EU-based VPS providers — physical data residency under GDPR, outside US CLOUD Act jurisdiction.

    -> Local AI: Optional stack — running open-weights models offline. Not because AI is the enemy (I agree with Torvalds: "Linux is not one of those anti-AI projects"), but because sovereignty means YOU decide where your data is processed. AI judged on merit, not ideology. Accountability over posturing.

    Sovereignty is a spectrum. Controlling your code, your infrastructure, and your data is how you opt out meaningfully.

      I stopped the credit cards

                                    @ivpn Split Tunneling on Linux (Desktop File Method)

                                    IVPN's Linux CLI split tunneling works, but their documentation doesn't cover desktop integration well. From what I can tell, you can't just add apps to a persistent list. You launch them through the CLI.

                                    The workaround: Custom .desktop files that wrap the ivpn splittun command.

                                    Example for Steam:

                                    Create ~/.local/share/applications/steam-novpn.desktop

                                    [Desktop Entry]
                                    Name=Steam (No VPN)
                                    Exec=bash -c 'ivpn splittun -appadd /usr/bin/steam &'
                                    Icon=steam
                                    Type=Application
                                    Categories=Game;

                                    For any app:

                                    • Find the binary: which <app>
                                    • Create desktop file with that path in the Exec line
                                    • Drop it in ~/.local/share/applications
                                    • Run: update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applications

                                    Notes:

                                    • Split tunnel mode (ivpn splittun -on) persists across reboots
                                    • Apps must be re-added after reboot (your desktop file handles this automatically)
                                    • Child processes (like Steam games) should inherit the exclusion

                                    Verify:
                                    ivpn splittun -status

                                    This gives you app menu icons. IVPN should document this pattern. It's the cleanest Linux desktop workflow I've found.

                                    I have submitted an issue to IVPN's ivpn.net GIthub proposing a guide to be added:

That revelation was made public in a motion filed Thursday by more than 20 Democratic attorneys general who sued the Trump administration last year over its data-sharing agreement between the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and ICE.

Acoustic gunshot detection is still a dangerous and often highly inaccurate technology that has resulted in real world harm, as in Chicago where it resulted in police shooting at children lighting fireworks. As Flock itself states, “No acoustic system is perfect, and we don't claim otherwise.” But police response to a situation where they believe guns are actively in use seems like a pretty high-stakes situation to be making, selling, and deploying technology known to be imperfect. Flock’s devices also listen for more than just gunshots. Their marketing materials admit to be listening for “community disruption,” which includes “non-violent” threats like car sideshows and fireworks."
