🧵 4/n i've learned a few more things about #Linux.

In my /etc/login.defs, i've changed UMASK from 022 to 002 - this will set the group write bit for every file and folder i create, even via sshfs.

The #Jellyfin trickplay routine will now find writable folders, even when they're not owned by the jellyfin group.

I've also disabled the chmod/chown cronjobs - traversing the whole tree structure, EVERY MINUTE, is an insane method, witch caused direct playback stutters.

I keep building systems for my ideal self, the one with consistent energy, perfect executive function, and endless motivation to maintain complex infrastructure.

Then my actual self shows up and just wants Debian to work.

The cycle taught me something: each experiment wasn't wasted. Gentoo, Nix, LFS, they all made me better at understanding why simple works.

Building for your future self is smart. Building for a different person entirely is exhaustion.
