• download latest (stable/snapshot) image from openwrt.org https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/25.12.5/targets/mediatek/filogic/openwrt-25.12.5-mediatek-filogic-bananapi_bpi-r4-sdcard.img.gz

• put image on sd card

• insert SD card in router

• Set the dip switches to 1 1 (down, down) to boot it from sd card

• poweron

• during boot in the console select install to NAND

• poweroff

• Set the dip switches to 0 1 (up, down) to boot from NAND

• poweron

• during boot in the console select install to eMMC

• poweroff

• Set the dip switches to 1 0 (down, up) to boot from eMMC

• poweron

• on the shell prompt run

  apk update
  apk add cfdisk
  cfdisk /dev/mmcblk0
  ``` → Resize /dev/mmcblk0p5 to something like 7.2G.
  write and quit ```cfdisk```
  

• back on the shell prompt run

umount /dev/fitrw
firstboot -y
reboot

After the reboot the entire capacity of the eMMC should be accessable

jscrambler npm Package Compromised in Supply Chain Attack

A malicious release of the jscrambler npm package (version 8.14.0) was published on July 11, 2026, introducing hidden native binaries that execute automatically during installation. The compromised package added an undocumented preinstall hook executing dist/setup.js, which deploys platform-specific binaries for Linux, macOS, and Windows embedded in an obfuscated CSI container. The payload is a Rust-built infostealer targeting cryptocurrency wallets, AI coding assistants, cloud credentials (AWS, GCP, Azure), browser data, and messaging applications. String obfuscation uses per-string ChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption. The threat actor published five malicious versions (8.14.0, 8.16.0, 8.17.0, 8.18.0, 8.20.0) over three hours, evolving delivery methods to evade detection. Version 8.22.0 is confirmed clean. The package receives approximately 15,800 weekly downloads, affecting developer workstations, CI systems, and build pipelines with access to credentials and secrets.

Linux 7.2 RC3 released!

After the release of Linux 7.1, which brought many features and improvements across different portions of the Linux kernel, such as hardware support and other improvements, an upcoming version of Linux is in the works.

Linux 7.2 RC3 is now live for developers and power users who are willing to try out a pre-release version of Linux that is yet to be released. All the interesting changes from performance improvements to bug fixes have been integrated to this release candidate, including, but not limited to:

• PCIe devices should not inadvertently reduce its speed to 2.5 GT/s
• Improved performance for AMD EPYC Sorano
• Added support for Wacom W9000 pen-enabled touchscreen
• Dropped ancient PROFIBUS driver ported from SCO Unix
• Bug fixes and minor improvements made to NTFS3 driver
• Startup overhead has been reduced for RISC-V
• USB4STREAM has been added to quickly send data between USB4 connected devices
• Preparations for NVIDIA Blackwell-Next devices
• Networking improvements and support for Wi-Fi 8 (UHR)
• Apple M3 systems can now boot to Linux 7.2
• AppleTalk protocol support has been dropped
• Various bug fixes and general improvements

The below announcement from Linus Torvalds in the mailing list says:

Things continue to look normal (the "new normal" with slightly higher rates of commits, although I do get the feeling that we're seeing that slightly balanced out by people starting to go on summer vacation).
About half the changes are to drivers - spread all over. Yes, there's GPU and networking as always, but there's a fair amount of other misc driver noise too.
The rest is similarly spread out: networking and filesystems are the biggest areas, but we have some documentation fixes (ok, some of it is just a pure re-indent), some core kernel, some architecture fixes, and various tooling fixes.
Nothing looks particularly scary or strange.

Linux v7.2 will be the third version from the v7.x series that will be released after Linux 7.1, which will bring many improvements and additions to enhance your user experience.

Arch Linux and other distributions will be updated to utilize Linux 7.2 once it officially releases to the public, with rolling distros being updated first, then the subsequent distributions will utilize this version of Linux according to the distro’s release schedule. Meanwhile, keep checking for updates in your Linux distro (such as 

pacman -Syu

 as root in Arch Linux), or compile it from source.

Please note that, if you’re going to try out this pre-release version of Linux, be sure that it might contain more bugs than the final release, as it’s an experimental version not intended for production use. We advise you to back up all critical data before you utilize this version.
