Using Signal on a GrapheneOS phone isn't always the best experience.
My father is running GOS but with a Google account. My sister is also on a Pixel but she is running PixelOS with a Google account. Neither have an issue receiving messages as they come in.

For me, most incoming messages are delayed even with Sandboxed Google Play installed. I do not have a Google account.

After allowing unrestricted battery, background data and unrestricted mobile data usage, messages are still arriving delayed.

Gotta be another reason which I figured was me not being signed into a Google account.

Turns out it's a setting within Signal.

Settings > Data and Storage > toggle on "Stay connected in background".

Signal will give a warning about battery drain but I'm getting about 1% per day which is nothing.

More progress here, and a big one. I installed #GrapheneOS on my #Pixel9a, something I've been putting off for weeks.

The install process was simple and took hardly any time at all. The hard part was setting up apps without having the old phone to refer to.

I did run into a few app incompatibilities - Strava straight up refuses to login, one banking app too, most of my other banking apps actually required DISABLING security features.

But otherwise it's fine, and runs just like before.

Ich habe gerade ne Schutzfolie auf meinem neuen Pixel 9a aufgebracht und das ist so ein Nervenkitzel den ich ansonsten gerne einem Fachgeschäft überlassen hätte. Aber die lagen halt bei - die Guten von Spigen.
Was ich bemerkenswert finde. Da ich mir (vermutlich nicht genug) Gedanken zum Thema tracking, Datenabschnorchelei etc. gemacht habe, sind auf dem alten Pixel 8a viel weniger Apps drauf.
"So viel wie nötig, so wenig wie möglich" lautet die Devise.

For the the record I frequently look at ROM community and see an annoyingly high percentage of majority-demographics and wealthy privilege at play, as well as the aforementioned shitty/toxic communications (especially #grapheneos).

But if you want to make it better volunteer at a library like I do or create a communications focused tool to help those who need it navigate ROMs.

Due respect but ypu spent 1000s of words bitching, tearing down, how are you going to HELP?

Zarówno w tutejszych dyskusjach, jak i w wiadomościach na blogowego maila, regularnie dopytujecie o jeden konkretny temat w kontekście codziennego używania telefonu. Doskonale o nim pamiętam.

Chodzi oczywiście o płatności zbliżeniowe NFC na GrapheneOS. Wiadomo, że po odcięciu usług Google standardowy Portfel nie zadziała, ale temat wcale nie jest z góry przegrany.

Nie będę jeszcze zdradzać, jakie dokładnie metody i obejścia wziąłem na warsztat, ale kompletny artykuł jest już w przygotowaniu i pojawi się niedługo. Bądźcie czujni.

We’ll I thought this had solved it, and things were fine for a few days, but now even with that setting still the same, we are back to square one. I’m a bit irritated. This strap is using the firmware it came with as I’ve never connected it to the official app. Perhaps that’s the next thing to try? #grapheneos #OpenStrap

Agree #grapheneos is TERRIBLE at communication but you might be too after death threats and lawsuit scares.

Lineageos is also good enough, though more work than the frankly unbelievable success of Graphene contributors building on Android Open Source

In der Leserbefragung wird vereinzelt kritisiert, dass zuletzt weniger Beiträge erschienen sind und sich manche Inhalte stärker an Einsteiger richten.

Weniger Artikel gibt es insgesamt zwar nicht, aber die #UnplugBigTech-Serie kostet viel Zeit. Gerade weil sie auch Menschen ohne tiefes technisches Vorwissen erreichen soll, sind Recherche, Aufbau und praktische Anleitungen ziemlich aufwendig.

Dadurch bleibt aktuell tatsächlich weniger Raum für sehr technische Beiträge für Fortgeschrittene. Das ist aber keine dauerhafte Verschiebung des Blogs: Im kommenden Jahr wird es eine komplette Artikelserie zu #GrapheneOS geben – entsprechend technisch wird es dann zugehen. 😉

Hier in Wuppertal wird von den Behörden die Nina Warn App verwendet. Leider kann ich die unter GrapheneOS zwar ohne Google Play Service installieren aber keine Ortsauswahl treffen. In der Sandbox in einem separaten Profil nutzt sie aber nix, weil ich ja üblicherweise im Hauptprofil angemeldet bin. Gibt es da irgendeinen Trick die IMHO schon wichtige App vollumfänglich ans laufen zu kriegen?

Na liście pojawiły się dwie zupełnie nowe kategorie: kalendarze oraz synchronizacja i transfer plików. Szczególną uwagę polecam zwrócić na LocalSend oraz BasicSync, który świetnie sprawdza się w modelu zero trust i bezpiecznie zastępuje klasycznego klienta Syncthing.
