Mark Kettenis added support for heartbeat blinking LEDs based on system load averages to OpenBSD/arm64 and OpenBSD/riscv64 boards. ​

kettenis@ modified src/sys/*: Implement the machdep.led_blink sysctl on arm64 and riscv64 and add support for it to gpioleds(4). Enable gpioleds(4) on riscv64.

Similar functionality also exists on sparc64 and HP PA-RISC machines.

The paper presents a longitudinal measurement study on the adoption of the pledge and unveil system calls in OpenBSD. These system calls are used to sandbox programs and libraries. Given a dataset covering 19 releases, many programs and libraries were modified to use the system calls already before their introductions in official releases.

Dog tired from being up very early to watch the England game but still managed to trouble shoot server problems after the power cut.

Firstly the actual Proxmox server doesn’t like DHCP setting the IP address. If you are going to use it then it’s the Virtual Bridge that gets an address, not the NIC. And you’ll need to get the DHCP lease manually.

My dhcpd.conf and unbound.conf files are a record of the truth. And I’ve worked hard at maintaining them.

Secondly I hadn’t enabled httpd and it had been a very long time since the #OpenBSD box was rebooted.

Lessons learnt.

@mvg both deadbeef and audacious are solid choices for audioplayer on various OS, imo. Used audacious on Linux and it's my goto audioplayer now on OpenBSD and FreeBSD.

For $REASONS, I took my (old) #Lenovo Ideapad S10 out of the box and installed #OpenBSD 7.9/i386 on it. Turns out... it installs and runs. But the only graphical Web browser I could use is Dillo; which can display DuckDuckGo but not Phanpy or my Bank User Portal. So I don't expect to go very far there. Also, even with hw.perfpolicy set to auto, the fan never stops blowing and making some annoying noise (although CPU is 40 degC).

Maybe I'll try some i386 Linux distro there to see what happens. Maybe it'll go back to its box until the Zombie Apocalypse and the need for 2W TDP CPU happen. Or until I need a 1024x600 10" tmux terminal... I could actually take it on the road where the P14 is too big and the iPhone is a bit too small...

In Go we format with gofmt. In Python we use black. What do we do in JavaScript?
I have tried installing oxfmt, but it says "not in #OpenBSD".
It should preferably work on all platforms, and be recent enough to include #ES6.
I prefere it to be strict.

If you can read this message from your own rock on the Fediverse ocean, it means this #GoToSocial bush has been properly upgraded to v0.22.0 Shrubby Sloth 🌿 while running on the unsupported #OpenBSD 7.9/amd64 platform using NOWASM and exposed through #relayd and #httpd.

The relay features have not been enabled, yet. Because I'd rather check that everything else work first. But they will, soon.

it detects the intel hd audio and attaches azalia(4), but only the internal realtek alc257 codec is found.

there is no hdmi audio codec, no audio1, and mixerctl -a only shows the internal speaker/headphone outputs. the external display works over hdmi, but there is no way to select hdmi audio because no hdmi audio device is detected.

is hdmi audio expected to work with openbsd 7.9? if it should work, are there any additional diagnostics steps i should try?

Both relayd(8) and httpd(8) now have the “secure” list of allowed crypto methods for HTTPS, which include TLSv1.3 and the TLSv1.2 AEAD cipher suites. The previous list was “HIGH:!aNULL” which contain non-perfect-forward-security methods and this change may cause old clients to not be able to connect.
